Tips to make your jeans last longer

Jeans first appeared in the mid 19th century as a work uniform for American miners, and since then they have become one of the most versatile garments around.

Experts recommend washing them after every 5 to 10 uses. If you want to make them last longer, follow these recommendations:

- Before putting them in the wash, check the pockets, close the zips and buttons, and turn them inside out to avoid the seams and folds fading through friction.

- If it is the first time you are washing them, wash them separately, or if you choose not to, wash them with other dark colours.

- Use cold water (maximum 30ºC) and do not use fabric conditioner as this can leave stains.

- Hang them out to dry, if possible out of direct sunlight, which can fade them. Turn them inside out and use pegs on the waist to avoid leaving marks. Do not tumble dry.
